2020 Census

For the most up to date information about the Census, please visit

Why is the Census so important?

The Census is counted every ten years, so it’s important to make sure everyone is counted.

Why? Because Census numbers determine things like federal funds to local municipalities, help direct services and programs within cities, towns, and counties, and generally provide direction for future planning.

How do I fill out the 2020 Census?

Most households will receive an invitation to fill out the 2020 Census in the mail. However, you can respond by mail, online, or on the phone.

Census forms are available in multiple languages as well.

Worried that you’ll miss the mail? Reminders will be sent to every household. In the event that a household has not responded, in person Census counters will visit to ensure everyone is counted.

My kid is in college and lives in a dorm or apartment. Do I count them?

No. Your child will be counted in their dorm, or receive their own Census invitation at their rental address.

I share custody of my child. Do I count my child?

If you share custody of a child, wherever that child will be sleeping on April 1 is the household that should include the child on the Census form.

What if I have a family member in jail/prison?

Family members who are incarcerated will be counted in the facility in which they are staying.
