Pearisburg Public Library HVAC Replacement Project
The Pearisburg Public Library is replacing its HVAC system. The project is expected to begin on November 17, 2025 and be completed before the Christmas holiday in December 2025. The timeline of this project is subject to change.
A1 Heating & Cooling of Newport, VA will complete the work. Every effort will be made to limit disruptions to patrons. However, due to the nature of the project, disruptions will be necessary to ensure the safety of construction crew, library staff, and library patrons.
An overview of the project and a tentative timeline are provided below.
- Week One (November 17-21): Work begins in the circulation desk; genealogy room; office areas.
- Curbside pickup only. No library programs.
- Week Two (November 24-26): Work finishes in the circulation desk; office areas. Work begins in the library stacks.
- Curbside pickup only.
- Limited faxing, copying, and printing services available on Tuesday/Wednesday (no public computer access).
- Bookworms meet in the local history room.
- Week Three (December 1-5): Library stacks work finishes; work begins the in the kitchen area and in the children's area.
- Curbside pickup on Monday.
- Limited faxing, copying, and printing services available (no public computer access).
- No access to children's area; public computers. Study rooms; local history; adult collections open.
- Week Four (December 8-12): Work continues in the children’s area of the library.
- No access to the children's area; public computers. Study rooms; local history; adult collections open.
- Week Five (December 15-19): Work continues in the children’s area of the library. Work begins in the library basement in the Career Closet and Friendship Café.
- No access to the children's area; public computers. Study rooms; local history; adult collections open.
- Week Six (December 22-23): Basement work continues; wrapping up before the holiday.
- Limited disruption to patrons.

- Why do we need a new HVAC system?
- The library’s current HVAC system was installed in the 90s and needs frequent repair. Fluctuations in temperature have a profound impact on library materials, causing them to deteriorate faster. Additionally, when temperatures dip too low or get too high, the safety of patrons and staff are impacted, causing unplanned library closures.
- A new HVAC system will work more efficiently, and provide a more stable environment for library materials, creating a comfortable space for patrons and staff to learn, explore, and connect.

- The total cost of this project is $121,000.
